Opis: Pathophysiology Evaluation - J Borer

Written by faculty members of the international symposium 'Valves in the Heart of the Big Apple: Evaluation and Management of Valvular Heart Diseases', this book is intended to complement and supplement the first volume, published in 2002. While the first volume reviews current information on valvular disease pathophysiology, epidemiology and evaluation as well as management strategies for affected patients, the current volume covers areas not discussed in the first and updates information on critical prognostication and management issues. The topics discussed include the selection of patients for surgery, current surgical approaches, natural history and management of selected complex congenital abnormalities involving heart valves, cellular and molecular pathophysiology of myocardial dysfunction. Consideration is also given to prognostication strategies and results as well as technical approaches to measuring disease characteristics.Introduction; Perspective; The Howard Gilman Foundation Lecture. Where Have We Come From and Where Are We Going? Valve Management Past, Present and Future: Perloff, J.K.; Epidemiology and Pathophysiology; The Epidemiology of Valvular Heart Diseases: The Problem is Growing: Supino, P.G.; Borer, J.S.; Yin. A.; Dillingham, E.; McClymont, W.; Heart Failure in Aortic Regurgitation: The Role of Primary Fibrosis and Its Cellular and Molecular Pathophysiology: Borer, J.S.; Truter, S.L.; Gupta, A.; Herrold, E.M.; Carter, J.N.; Lee, E.; Pitlor, L.; Is Prophylactic [beta]-Adrenergic Blockade Appropriate in Mitral Regurgitation: Impact of Cellular Pathophysiology: Sterling, M.R.; Aortic Valve and Aortic Root Diseases Valve Surgery in the Asymptomatic Patient with Aortic Regurgitation: Current Indications and the Effect of Change Rates in Objective Measures: Borer, J.S.; Supino, P.G.; Hochreiter, C.; Herrold, E.M.; Yin, A.; Krieger, K.; Isom, O.W.; Valve Repair versus Replacement When Aortic Regurgitation Is Caused by Aortic Root Aneurysms: Relative Advantages and Disadvantages and the Impact of Decision on Surgical Indications: Girardi, L.N.; Assessment of Myocardial Damage in Regurgitant Valvular Disease: Narula, J.; Cholesterol-Lowering Studies for Aortic Stenosis: Rosenbluth, A.; Fuster, V.; Perspectives on Diseases of the Thoracic Aorta: Elefteriades, J.A.; Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Diseases; Natural History of Mitral Stenosis and Echocardiographic Criteria and Pitfalls in Selecting Patients for Balloon Valvuloplasty: Berger, M.; Surgical Treatment of Degenerative Mitral Regurgitation: Should We Approach Differently Patients with Flail Leaflets of Simple Mitral Valve Prolapse?
