I think we may all congratulate the Catholic Truth Society of Ireland on the publication of this volume, which has very fitly been called the "Roll of Honour." It is, indeed, a Roll of Honour, for it comprises the most eminent Irish Churchmen of the nineteenth century, whose services to the Church and to their country have rendered their names immortal in the history of our native land.
It would, I think, be difficult to find a trio of Churchmen in any country who hold a higher place in the estimation of their countrymen, both as ecclesiastics and patriots, than Murray, and Doyle and John MacHale. They disagreed in many points, but no one has ever yet questioned their honesty of purpose and nobility of character.
