Opis: Poems of to-Day - Author Unknown
Excerpt from Poems of to-Day: Second Series
The welcome accorded to the first volume of "Poems of To-day" leads the Committee to hope that a second volume may be of service to those interested in the poetry of their own times. The first volume was published in August, 1915; the interval that has passed has brought to all experience which the imagination of a few has transmuted into poetry. This second volume is an attempt to bring together such poems as represent, not indeed all the shifting tendencies of the period, but those moods which have proved most permanent, persisting through all the changes of events and of public feeling, linking the poetry of to-day with that of yesterday, and looking forward to the poetry of to-morrow.
Most of the selections are from the writings of younger men, who have written mainly under the influences and reactions of the war; but others are from the works of older and more established poets who have not lost touch with this generation.
